Sometimes you and I face life experiences that are difficult to process and handle. There are things that often need the kind of resolve, strength, and fortitude that we do not readily have available. Needless to say, this can be overwhelming and discouraging when we don't feel like we have the capacity to overcome our challenges. That said, at times we have to encourage ourselves to go on because either others aren't there or capable of convincing us to keep going.
David finds himself in this exact situation. His men are angry with him, and he has lost so much at this moment in his life. So he has to encourage himself. We see from David's response how we too can encourage ourselves when disheartened and discouraged. Just like David, it takes spiritual enlightenment, separation, and service to overcome some challenging life experiences.
