Most, if not all of us, have experienced disappointments in life. If we have lived any length of time we know that disappointments are a natural part of the human experience. We have had to wrestle with disappointments in our relationships, on our jobs, and at times in trying to find a job. We are well experienced with being disappointed by others because our expectations were not met. And very often the disappointments we experience at the hands of individuals can influence our relationship with God, and we don't expect much from God. In other words, we can run the risk of living life not expecting much from God.
However, the Psalmist shows us in this yet another Pilgrim Psalm that there are a few things we can always expect from God. We can live with the expectation that while on our journey with the Lord we can count on a few things. We can expect God's Security, God's Shepherding, and God's Supply in our lives no matter what the task in front of us. While we continue looking at these particular psalms that the children of Israel used as encouragement on their journey, let's remember that the same God who was with them is the same God with us!
