In honor of Mother's Day, and in an attempt to recognize the strength that women possess, we will consider 2 women in scripture who not much is mentioned about their personal lives yet we find that they are instrumental in impacting history. Shiphrah and Puah are midwives who are contributory in dismantling Pharoah's genocide of Hebrew boys.
In the brief scripture highlighting the interactions of the midwives, we see that Shiprah and Puah were women of great strength. Their connection with God provided a degree of courage that enabled them to stand up against Pharoah's scheme to destroy the Israelites. The strength these women possessed was shaped by their connection to God, their concern for others, and God's compassion in their lives. Women, whether mothers or not, possess a tremendous responsibility in shaping our families, communities, and ultimately the world. Therefore, women must rely on The Lord to fulfill their God-given obligation to humanity.
We celebrate the strength of a woman!!!
